During a chat with his fellow India teammate Mayank Agarwal, the Delhi cricketer recalled the time when he was disgusted by looking himself and decided to go for a transformation after IPL 2012. He even insisted that Indians were still behind others in terms of fitness levels by that time which bothered him. "Had to do with the game completely. 2012 IPL I came back home, saw myself, I was disgusted and I wanted to change myself and also to do with the fact that I saw how the dynamics of cricket around the world were changing rapidly. I felt we were far behind in terms of being at the same intensity level as other teams, they were moving far ahead of us in terms of fitness levels," the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper told Mayank in a chat on his show Open Nets with Mayank. "The ability to bring that intensity in every session, every spell, every hour of batting, even in fielding sessions, stoping that one run or having that magical run-out. They were just able to do it with so much regularity that we were not able to keep up with that," the Indian skipper added. Kohli went on revealing that during IPL 2012 he had a poor diet and used to finish a pack of 40 toffees within 4-5 days. The explosive right-handed batsman said he had a habit of eating anything in front of him and was also sleeping heavily which needed to change. And his poor run in IPL 2012 season forced a change in his mindset and pushed him to start training. "So that really bothered me what can we do to change that particular process and it had to start at an individual level first. And that realisation came to me after IPL 2012 when I was eating like anything in front of me. ITC Gardenia where we used to stay, they had a packet of eclairs toffees and they would refill the mini-bar every time and I would finish a pack in say 4-5 days time. That was a pack of 40 toffees so that was my diet at the time," said Kohli. Get breaking news alerts. The 33-year-old said staying away from family will not be an easy task. "Obviously three daughters and my wife, who I owe a lot to, has been a big part of my playing career. You've always got to look out for your family first, and with cricket and these unprecedented times, you've got to weigh up these decisions," Warner was quoted as saying by 'ESPNCricinfo'. "Look, at the moment, I'll keep continuing to aim for that. Obviously the T20 (World Cup) is not here at home, which would have been ideal to play that and win that here. Now that gets pushed back. I will have to have a rethink about that when it comes to India. "I'll see where I am and where the girls are at with school as well. A lot of that is a big part of my decision. It's not just when the games are being played and how much cricket's being played. It's a big family decision for myself." Cricket is taking small steps towards resumption amid the raging pandemic, putting in place tough quarantine rules and creating bio bubbles to negate the threat of infection. IPL Bio-Bubble: Franchises fret over WAGS, local drivers, security, hospitality In Australia, Warner said cricketers do not have many options apart from training in their home states as of now. "We're obviously unsure and unclear given states are in lockdown or not letting people from other states go interstate. We have to sit back and wait for the government and states to see what the regulations are behind that," he said. "All we can do really is train with our states and prepare as well as we can on the wickets provided to get ready for the season." With cases rising in Victoria, Warner feels the state may miss out on hosting international fixtures, including the Boxing Day Test. "It's going to be challenging for everyone. I think we spoke about state cricket. That's the perfect example. How is Victoria going to be able to start (Sheffield) Shield cricket down there. At the moment, it seems like it'll be impossible." Warner is also worried about lack of red-ball preparation ahead of the Test series against Afghanistan and India since they will be playing too many limited-overs matches in lead of up to the Test series. Australia are scheduled to travel to England in September. Some players, including Warner, will then head to the UAE for the delayed IPL before hosting Afghanistan and India. "Usually you have a couple of Shield games leading into a Test series, especially at home," he said. "So I think the unique thing about it is the Indian team and ourselves are going to be in the same boat really. "We're going to have a lack of red-ball cricket preparation and end of the day we have to make the most of that time training in the lead up to the Test series." Get breaking news alerts. The top seven teams from the league will automatically book their spot at the event in India. The competition begins with a series between world champions England and Ireland from July 30. "There is always logic in everything that happens, but what tends to happen is that it's incredibly complex because what you're trying to do is fit two systems together," Atherton said on Sky Sports Cricket. "You've got the ICC global events - World Cup, World T20, and what was the Champions Trophy - and you're trying to marry that with the usual bilateral series in what's called the Future Tours Programme where every team plays against each other. "Trying to mix those two together is incredibly difficult, and you end up with this." Featuring 13 teams, the 12 ICC Full Members and the Netherlands, who qualified by winning the World Cricket Super League 2015-17, the Super League will see each side play four home and four away three-match series. Each team gets 10 points for a win, five for a tie/no result/abandonment and none for a loss. They will be ranked according to total points earned across the eight series and criteria are in place to separate two or more teams on equal points. ICC launch Super League qualification pathway for 2023 ODI World Cup in India The 52-year-old former batsman, who scored 7728 runs in 115 Tests for England, said a less complex system would have been easier for the public to understand. "Try explaining this to the man on the street, try explaining the World Test Championship to the man on the street, which we find it hard enough to understand and we work in the damn game, and then try explaining that to the man on the street," he said. "What you've really got to try and get is something that's less complex and a bit more straightforward in order for people to understand." Former England captain Andrew Strauss, who sits on the ICC's cricket committee, however, said it is impossible to get a more straight forward system and the governing body is criticised no matter what it does. "It makes complete sense to try and find something more straightforward but it's not possible," he said. "We all talk about meaningless bilateral cricket that doesn't have any context, and then the ICC try and put together the World Test Championship and everyone goes 'the points system is too complicated' and then they try the Super League and they say 'Why are they doing that?' "They're damned if they do, they're damned if they don't." The ICC had drawn criticism from players such as New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson who felt the points system is not fair, while India captain Virat Kohli had said that overseas wins should be rewarded more in the WTC. Five teams will compete for the title over 23 games. "Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee at the meeting held today (27th July) granted approval to conduct the inaugural Lanka Premier League T20 Tournament from 28th August to 20th September 2020," SLC said in a statement. The tournament will be played on the "four international venues of R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Rangiri Dambulu International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and Suriyawewa Mahinda Rajapakse International Cricket Stadium." "5 Teams named after the cities of Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Dambulla and Jaffna will participate in the League." The Board said that "over 70 International players and 10 top notch coaches have already confirmed their availability for the tournament along with leading Sri Lankan national players." In the tournament, each franchise will be allowed to pick a maximum of six foreign players in the squad with only four in the final eleven. The Board will come out with a schedule for the tournament later and said "the bidding for the event's Title Holder is due to close on July 30th". SLC, which had conceived the league in 2018, was earlier optimistic of conducting the event from August 8 to 22, pending government's decision to open the country's border for foreign arrivals. Former captain of physically challenged India cricket team applies for peon job with NADAInflicted with polio since birth, Sain played nine games for India's physically challenged team between 2015 and 2019, also captaining the side during this time. At 35, he is currently looking for a steady income to support his family -- wife and a one-year-old toddler. "I am 35 and currently in first year of my graduation. After 12th standard, I only played cricket, represented India but I have no money now. There is one vacancy for a peon's post in NADA," Sain told PTI from his Sonepat home. Dinesh's elder brothers have looked after him and his family till now but he he says that time is running out and that is why he is desperate to get the NADA job. "The age limit for normal people in this job (peon) is 25 and for the PH category (Physically handicapped), it is 35 years. So, this is my last chance to get a government job," Dinesh, who had earlier appeared for peon's interview at District court, said. His only regret these days is the fact that despite playing for the country, fame and money eluded him. "One of my legs has been affected by polio since birth. But my passion for cricket never made me realise I am disabled. In the 2015 edition of a five-nation tournament in Bangladesh (India won the 2019 edition in England), I was highest wicket-taker with 8 wickets from four games. I got two against Pakistan," he recollected. In fact, Dinesh travelled to England in 2019 with the team that emerged champion but as an official. "They didn't include me in the squad but asked me to join so that I could guide the new boys. There is so much of talent where physical disadvantage is not an impediment. But then who will look after us?" was his angst filled question. As he concluded, Dinesh said that if he gets the job at NADA, it will help him remain attached to the game, mentoring young players. "I will not play cricket anymore but I need to feed my family and I want to remain attached to the game," he said. Get breaking news alerts. "The IPL governing council is likely to meet on August 1. It is expected that franchises will be handed the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) after the meeting," a senior BCCI official told PTI. The meeting, expected to be attended by top BCCI brass, including president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, would address concerns of various stakeholders. The tenures of both Ganguly and Shah are over but the two have sought a relaxation in the Lodha Committee-recommended cooling off norms from the Supreme Court, which will hear the matter on August 17. Also, most likely, this edition of the IPL would have less number of double-headers which would be beneficial for broadcasters. Ways to negate the loss of gate money for the franchises, since the matches will be played before empty stadiums in a bio-secure environment, will also be a major topic of discussion. While it is expected that most of the franchises will send their recce teams to the UAE to check out the facilities as well as the bio-secure environment that can be created, there are concerns that remain, including accommodation plan and catering services. Another tricky issue that is likely to come up is whether families of the players would be allowed to accompany them. A senior franchise official had told PTI said that it will be "criminal" to keep players away from their families for two months and that too in a sanitised environment. "During normal times, the wives and girlfriends, join the players during a specified period but this is a completely different scenario. If families travel, can they be confined to rooms without being able to move around normally?" an official asked. "There will be players who have kids aged between 3 to 5 and how do you keep them in a room for two months?" he added. Get breaking news alerts. StrengthIn Kohli, AB de Villiers and Moeen Ali the Royal Challengers have three different yet very effective batsmen. Add to them the firepower of the talented Devdutt Padikkal and Australian limited-over captain Aaron Finch, the RCB line-up has that usual impregnable look. Finch has been in fine fettle too of late. From the auction they have also added Sri Lankan pacer Isuru Udana, a T20 specialist, and South African all-rounder Chris Morris. The Royal Challengers have a good mix of bowlers in Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav and Washington Sundar. They have a bit more balance on paper this time and the RCB will be hoping to stand on the podium this time, of course with the winners' trophy. 2. WeaknessTell whatever you want, but the batting of RCB will be hinged on the willows of Kohli and De Villiers. If they are looking for a change of fortune then RCB will require some serious contribution from the likes of Finch, Moeen, Devdutt, Shivam Dube, Parthiv Patel etc, and sporadic fireworks will not have any more than decorative value. This shadow of imbalance haunts their bowling too. Yes, they have Chahal, Umesh and Washington who can make an impact on the pitches on UAE. But can others like Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Siraj and Dale Steyn support them consistently? Saini, who is still raw, and Siraj can go for runs while Steyn too has not played any competitive cricket after the Mzansi Super League last year. While the South African great's skills are redoubtable, it remains to be seen whether his now injury-prone 37-year-old body can last the race. It could make a decisive difference in some games at least. 4. SquadVirat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Devdutt Padikkal, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Moeen Ali, Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Parthiv Patel, Pawan Negi, Shivam Dube, Umesh Yadav, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, Josh Philippe, Kane Richardson, Pavan Deshpande, Dale Steyn, Isuru Udana, Shahbaz Ahamad. 4. Stars to watch out forVirat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Yuzvendra Chahal, Aaron Finch, Umesh Yadav. 5. IPL predictionUnless they found a way to churn out consistent team efforts, the RCB would once again be looking at a different team with envy. At this stage, we really don't have any evidence to think otherwise. Their best bet could be a place in play-offs but realistically they could end up on fifth or sixth. StrengthThe Super Kings have never failed to reach the qualifiers whenever they competed in the IPL and no other team can boast of that record, not even four-time champions Mumbai Indians. Dhoni's astute captaincy has played a part in it along with Super Kings' persistence to keep their core bench intact. This time too the case is not different. Apart from Dhoni, they have Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo to lead their campaign along with Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu, Imran Tahir, Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis. From the last IPL auction, they had added Piyush Chawla and Sam Curran to their line-up. All these stars have seen several battles and remain unfazed in any situation. The pitches in UAE are on the slower side and that could play in favour of the Chennai team who has some excellent tweakers in their camp. 2. WeaknessIt is again that strange phenomenon of experience, which at one level their biggest advantage, turning out to be the Achilles Heel. The same outfit, well almost, has taken CSK to title in 2018 and to final in 2019 but this time the scenario is different. Can these veterans shake off the lethargy of not playing any cricket for a long time? Skipper Dhoni last played a competitive match in July 2019, India's semifinal exit from the ICC World Cup 2019 to be precise. Some others like Harbhajan, Bravo, Watson and Tahir too have endued long break from the game. In that context, can the Super Kings regain the cohesion that makes them a dangerous outfit. 3. SquadMS Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu, KM Asif, Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo, Faf du Plessis, Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, N Jagadeesan, Karn Sharma, Kedar Jadhav, Lungi Ngidi, Mitchell Santner, Monu Kumar, M Vijay, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shane Watson, Shardul Thakur, Suresh Raina, Sam Curran, Piyush Chawla, Josh Hazlewood, R Sai Kishore. 4. Stars to watch out forMS Dhoni, Lungi Ngidi, Ravindra Jadeja, Suresh Raina, Josh Hazlewood. 5. IPL predictionThe Chennai Super Kings may struggle to find the right chords in IPL 2020. But the presence of Dhoni and a mix of battle-hardened veterans and talented youngsters could carry them to play-offs this time too. After all, a champion side should not be written off under any circumstances.
