Ireland played some very smart cricket in the second ODI and won a match that very few would have given it the chance to do so. Andre Balbirnie led the batting effort from the front and scored a magnificent century.

They were helped by having a large total to defend but it is clear that Ireland has improved in this area significantly over the last two years or so.

Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Andile Phehlukwayo all played this match. This is South Africa’s best bowling attack and it was helpless to stop Ireland from scoring freely. Rabada and Nortje asked a few difficult questions at the start but gave away far too many loose deliveries during the end.
